If I don't want to use VyprDNS, how can I use 3rd Party DNS?

VyprDNS is enabled by default within our VyprVPN apps. To use alternative DNS servers, follow the instructions below for your respective platform.

VyprVPN for Windows

  1. With the VyprVPN app open and your active window, click the Settings icon (gear/cog) in the upper right of the app.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click the DNS tab.
  4. Click 3rd Party DNS. Specify the Primary and Secondary DNS servers you would like to use.
  5. Click the Apply button.
  6. Click the OK button.

VyprVPN for Mac

  1. With the VyprVPN app open and your active window, click VyprVPN from the menu bar.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click the DNS tab.
  4. Click 3rd Party DNS. Specify the Primary and Secondary DNS servers you would like to use.
  5. Close the Preferences window.

VyprVPN for Android

  1. With the VyprVPN app open and your active app, tap the Settings icon (gear/cog) in the upper right of the app.
  2. Tap DNS within the VPN Settings section.
  3. Tap 3rd Party DNS. Specify the Primary and Secondary DNS servers you would like to use.
  4. Tap the back arrow in the upper left of the menu options twice to return to the main screen of the app.

VyprVPN for iOS

3rd Party DNS is not available on iOS. When connected to our VPN servers using the iOS app, you will always be using VyprDNS.

VyprVPN for Amazon Fire Stick/TV

  1. With the VyprVPN app open and your active app, click the Settings icon (gear/cog) in the upper right of the app.
  2. Tap DNS within the VPN Settings section.
  3. Click 3rd Party DNS. Specify the Primary and Secondary DNS servers you would like to use.

VyprVPN Router App

  1. Log into your router settings.
  2. Click Basic in the left hand menu.
  3. Click Network.
  4. Find Static DNS and enter the Primary and Secondary DNS servers you would like to use.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click the Save button.
