VyprVPN L2TP/IPSec VPN Setup for Windows 10

VyprVPN Free accounts are limited to using our Desktop, and Mobile applications to connect to our VPN service. Please see "What is VyprVPN Free?" for more information.

To add a necessary registry setting:

1. Press the Windows Key and R at the same time to bring up the Run box.

2. Type in: regedit and click OK. Click Yes if asked if you'd like to allow the app to make changes to your PC.

3. In the left pane, locate and click the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent

4. Click the Edit menu and hover your cursor over New. Click DWORD Value. A new registry will appear in the right pane, named New Value #1.

5. Rename that file: AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule (this is case-sensitive and contains no spaces) and press ENTER.

6. Right-click AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule, then click Modify.

7. In the Value data box, type 2 and click OK.

8. Reboot the computer.

 

To configure the Golden Frog certificate:

Installation of the Golden Frog Certificate requires administrative privileges on your computer.

1. Download the certificate and save it.

2. Press the Windows Key and R at the same time to bring up the Run box.

3. Type in: mmc and click OK. Click Yes if asked if you'd like to allow the app to make changes to your PC.

4. Click the File menu then click Add/Remove Snap-in...

5. In the Available snap-ins list on the left, double-click Certificates.

6. In the popup window, select Computer account, click Next, then click Finish.

7. Click OK to close the Snap-ins window.

8. In the center pane of the console window, double-click Certificates (Local Computer).

9. Double-click Personal.

10. Right click in the center pane, hover the cursor over All Tasks, then click Import...

11. Click Next, then Browse...

12. Locate the goldenfrog-client.p12 file downloaded earlier and click Open. If you don't see the file, then locate the file type drop-down next to the file name field and choose All Files.

13. Click Next.

14. Type goldenfrog in the Password field, then click Next.

15. Select Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate, click Next, then click Finish.

16. Close the Console1 window.

17. Click Yes to save Console1 settings.

18. The default name is fine, click Save again.

 

To configure the L2TP/IPsec connection:

1. Click on the Start menu.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Click Network & Internet from the Settings menu.

4. Select VPN from the left side of the window.

5. Click Add a VPN connection.

6. Fill out the settings listed in the box below.

VPN provider: Windows (built-in)
Connection Name: VyprVPN
Server name or address: See server list
VPN type: L2TP/IPSEC with certificate
Type of sign-in info: User name and password
User name (optional): Your Golden Frog email address
Password (optional): Your Golden Frog password
Remember my sign-in info: Checked

7. Click Save.

8. You will now see the connection in the Network & Internet window.

9. Click Network and Sharing Center under Related settings.

10. In Network and Sharing Center, click Change adapter settings on the left side of the window.

11. Right-click on VyprVPN and choose Properties.

12. Navigate to the Security tab and for Data encryption select: Maximum strength encryption (disconnect if server declines). Click OK.

13. Close the Network and Sharing Center window and you will find yourself back in the VPN section of Network and Internet.

 

How to Connect:

1. Click on the Start menu.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Click on Network & Internet from the Settings menu.

4. Select VPN from the left side of the window.

5. Click on VyprVPN and then click the Connect button.

6. You are now connected to VyprVPN! Click Disconnect from this screen at any time to disconnect from the service.

7. You can check your IP here: https://www.goldenfrog.company/whatismyipaddress
